Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for anyone responsible for the supervision of mental health first aid practice in the workplace

Students will be able to

  • Define mental health
  • Identify factors that can affect a person’s mental health
  • Explain the role of a mental health first aider
  • Outline advice that should be provided to a person suffering from a suspected mental health condition
  • Explain when to contact the emergency services in respect of a suspected mental health condition
  • Identify signs of stress and explain how stress can be managed
  • State potential effects of alcohol and drug abuse on a person’s mental health
  • Demonstrate application of the first aid action plan for mental health
  • State key factors in providing a positive mental health culture in the workplace
  • Explain how to implement a positive mental health culture
  • Describe the signs and symptoms AND the support and therapy provided by professional health care providers for the following mental health conditions; depression, anxiety, PTSD, self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, personality disorders, bipolar, psychosis and schizophrenia
